Busted Season 2- Series Review

Busted is a Korean variety show on Netflix which aired in May 2018 and ended in June 2018. The main cast consists of Yoo Jae-Suk (Running Man), Ahn Jae-Wook (actor), Kim Jong-Min (2 Days & 1 Night), Lee Kwang-Soo (Running Man), Park Min-Young (actress), Ooh Sehun (Exo), and Kim Se-Jeong (Gugudan). The show is about 7 detectives solving mysteries with a series of puzzles along the way. Each member shows a certain degree of their own intelligence or luck in every puzzle thrown their way.

—At least that’s for the first season. All ten episodes of the second season were released on November 8th of this year (2019). Lee Kwang-Soo was only on the first episode of this season due to schedule complications—leading to him being replaced by Lee Seung-gi from episodes 5-10.

The main thing that I noticed while watching this season is that it has more plot than the first one. The first season—as it is introducing the series as a whole—is more based on the comedic aspects and detective games. It wasn’t until near the end of the first season where there was more emphasis on the plot. With this season, there was more of a balance between solving the mysteries and an actual plot. From the first episode, it catches your attention—especially since it takes off about a year since the events of the final episode of the first season and explains the mystery of one of the members of the crew (trying not to give spoilers). It even has excellent plot twists—some that you absolutely don’t see coming, others being a bit cliché yet still manage to shock you because there are moments where you discard your initial predictions and forget about it until the end when those predictions come true (I know I’m rambling about this, it’s just I’m still rather salty about this happening to me when I saw it).

They included many guest-stars (many of them being k-pop idols) such as Hani (from EXID), Sung-Jae (BTOB), and IZ*ONE. Each of these guest-stars had different roles in the series—especially Sung-Jae. While this season has many dramatic moments, that doesn’t take away the hilarious ones that made countless people fall in love with the series itself (to be honest, I watched one of the episodes during one of my final classes—which is a bad idea, but I don’t regret it one bit). The season had a rather dark ending. While the season did answer a few questions from this season and the previous, many were still left unanswered. I really hope they do create a third season (one that is more uplifting because this season was incredibly dark—don’t get me wrong, I love every single second of this. I just hope they answer all of the questions.) They also make you question if they’re really the heroes or if they’re actually useless as detectives.

With that being said, I give the second season of Busted a solid 4 out of 5 paws because there were moments where you feel that they were emphasizing too much on certain characters—especially with one that somehow very conveniently had connections within every mystery they needed to solve. 🐾🐾🐾🐾 I do recommend you watch this because it is absolutely worth it. They also did a very good job in making the viewer feel more like they’re a part of the world by making more of a balance between having an actual plot and doing their best to solve the mysteries. That’s it for today, I hope you all enjoyed this! Until next time, keep your paws and bowls of ramen up, everyone! Nya! 🐾
