Mother’s Day, the day where we give appreciation and love to our mothers (though it can literally be every day of the year). Mothers are the ones who give us love, teach us to grow into the best versions of ourselves we can be and are also our best friends. However, there are a few cases where mothers are also the most evil beings in the world due to how manipulative and just plain evil they are. With a few hours left of Mother’s day, I decided to make a comparison of two of the worst mothers in both the drama world and the anime world.
Dao Ming Feng (Meteor Garden 2018)
Those of you who have seen Boys Over Flowers, Hana Yori Dango, Meteor Garden (2001) or have read the manga/watched the anime, know how evil Dao Ming Si (Tsukasa Domyouji in the Japanese version)’s mother is. She absolutely hates the idea of her son being with a commoner- however, I feel like the 2018 Chinese version of his mom is the worst of them all. In this version of the drama, the creators made sure not to make it like the previous versions of it by adding more humor and changing a lot of the drama aspects such as the versions of Domyouji forgetting the main character due to retrograde amnesia (“memory loss to events that occurred or information that was learned before an injury or the onset of a disease” -Information from: Wikipedia). They do make sure that most of the drama comes from the shaky relationship Dao Ming Feng has with her two children (Dao Ming Zhuang and Dao Ming Si). She literally won’t stop in order to have her son marry the person she chooses instead of him marrying the person he loves. The most messed up point with this is the fact that she was stubborn enough to let the protagonist stand outside for days and nights and her own son stay in his room- both starving themselves as a means to prove that they want to be with each other. It wasn’t until she was told by the girl and her own father that they don’t want to connect the families by marriage that she finally caved in. She was also the reason why a relationship her daughter had with a man didn’t work out. She did start to try and be motherly in the last episode, but daaaaaaannng the entire show revolved on how top-tier toxic she was.
Ragyo Kiryuin (Kill La Kill)
Now, it is debatable on who’s the worst mother in anime, but I do think that Ragyo Kiryuin is the worst of the worst. Not only does she discard one of her own daughters like trash, but she also used both of them like lab rats and was incredibly abusive (not only physically and mentally abusing her own children, but also sexually assaulting them). She would literally stop at NOTHING to get what she wants. In my opinion, she is the epitome of an evil, toxic, abusive (the list goes on and on) mother. I was ecstatic when karma got her in the end. But seriously, WHO TEARS THE HEART OF THEIR OWN CHILD JUST TO PROVE A POINT?!?!?!
