Meiji Tokyo Renka -Final Review-

Last month, I made a small review of Meiji Tokyo Renka when it was about 5-6 episodes in. It was more of an overview/ “first impressions” (if you want to call it that) since it was still ongoing when I wrote that. Now that it’s finally completed, I can give a full on review of it.

As I have mentioned in the previous “review”, this is based on the otome about a high school girl who can hear ghosts and gets sent back in time to the Meiji Period where she meets many interesting people (all of them based on actual people who existed in that era). It’s a romantic comedy, but since it’s based on an otome, it’s incredibly cheesy (which made me both cringe and fangirl to the fullest).

There are quite a few moments that make you go “wtf” and just facepalm because of the characters, but their development throughout the plot is incredible and you don’t fully notice it until the final episode, when she’s saying goodbye to everyone and they show you the difference between how they were in the beginning and the end. I have to admit, I cried a lot with the last episode because I really wanted her to stay, but it makes sense as to why the writers of the anime decided to go with her going back to her time rather than stay with Ogai (since the otome game exists for that reason).

As I was searching for images for the anime, I found that they actually made a play for it.

Overall, I give Meiji Tokyo Renka a good 4 paws out of five🐾🐾🐾🐾. If you love romance and want a lot of cheesy moments, this is perfect for you. Even though I cringed a lot because of said moments, I also thought they were adorable. Plus it always made you want more because you’re always curious as to what’s going to happen next. Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this final review for Meiji Tokyo Renka. Until next time, keep your paws and bowls of ramen up, everyone! Nya! 🐾

  1. This one ended up being cute and fun. Couldn’t ask for a lot more from it and it at least managed to not drop the ball in the final episodes. The ending was very nicely done.
