A Couple of Handsome Men- Final Review

A Couple of Handsome Men is a yaoi manhua (Chinese manga) released in 2017. It takes place in China where the main character—a talented basketball player—is offered a contract to become a part of an M-Pop group and become an idol. He ends up being in the same group with 4 other rather interesting men from different backgrounds—with one of them being a foreigner. It also covers the struggles of being an idol, how they are seen in the media’s and industry’s eyes itself and even gives an insight of how different times were back then and how China presently deals with homophobia (as I have written previously in an initial review). The manga ended earlier this week.

As I had previously commented on the initial review, the art style isn’t exactly the best, but it’s also not the worse that I’ve seen. The thing is, I feel like near the end, it seemed a bit rushed which also showed a bit in the art style since it actually degraded in quality—still not the worst I’ve seen, but it is kind of disappointing that the author decided to rush everything near the end of the webcomic. I felt like it was getting better, but then the ending seemed a bit rushed which was a real let down. The last few chapters aren’t even a part of the original story since it’s an AU that the author decided to include.

I know this is the author’s first work since they did mention it at the beginning of the webtoon, but I think they had poor organizational skills for the last 5-15 chapters since it felt like the story just fell from the top of Mt. Everest to the bottom of the ocean. It did have a good ending, but I felt like something was missing. Please know, I’m not trying to bash the story in the slightest, but I still think the author could’ve done a better job with organizing and taking their time with the story in order for it to have come out a bit neater and with more emotion than what was released in the webtoon.

With that being said, I give A Couple of Handsome Men 2 paws out of 5🐾🐾. The story was good, but I felt like it missed the mark by a lot near the ending of the webtoon. That’s all for today. I hope you all enjoyed reading this. Until next time, keep your paws and bowls of ramen up, everyone! Nya! 🐾
