The Carmen Sandiego series released today (January 18, 2019). Being at 9 episodes right now, the series really seems interesting due to the fact that we see Carmen’s adventures in her perspective; unlike in the 1990’s series and games where you’re trying to capture her. The “player” is a teen hacker from Canada who helps Carmen on her thieving missions, which reminded me of the relationship of Wade and Kim Possible.

The show also has many funny moments as a means to balance the amount of drama and suspense. You also get a chance to see some back story of the world-famous thief despite some of it being unknown for now. They also explain why ACME wants to capture her which, in a way, ties into the 90’s series and games. Of course, they also give a few geographical and historical facts; however they use it in the dialogue of the characters so it sticks with the plot of the series and doesn’t seem excessive or annoying.

I remember how hard I screamed when I found out that Netflix was working on the series and how soon they were going to release it. I’ve been a huge fan of Carmen Sandiego since I was a child. In fact, I actually asked as a Christmas present, my favorite game in the series: “Great Chase Through Time”. I was going to write a review on the games as a means to prepare for the release of the series, however, right now I’m trying to find a way to play a 90’s game on my 2018 laptop. While there were people who were skeptical and actually hated the trailer of the show because it wasn’t the same as the 90’s version, I thought that the show was very well made since the Carmen Sandiego games themselves and the show are each a stand-alone piece. If they do make a second season, I would be so excited since there are quite a few questions that are left unanswered, but if they don’t, I’m fine with that too because it gives the mysterious aspect that is Carmen Sandiego that everyone within the fandom enjoys.

With this said, I give Carmen Sandiego the Netflix series a solid 4 paws out of five🐾🐾🐾🐾. I recommend you watch this if you’re a huge fan or if you just got to hear about her. The series is very well made and I enjoyed every second of it. Until the next time, keep your paws and bowls of ramen up, everyone! Nya! 🐾
