Pride Month: Toxic Couple: Do Jin and Soo Gyum- Detained

Though we’d like to think love is one of the purest things to happen to a human being, there will always be toxic couples which make you wonder why are they together if it’s incredibly unhealthy. Now, the couple I’m going to talk about isn’t as toxic as the one in Killing Stalking (because that is the epitome of a toxic relationship and I might talk about that in a later post), but it sort of starts off the same way (to a certain degree.)

The couple is from yaoi webtoon “Detain” by Kr which was released in 2016. Now, the reason why Do Jin and Soo Gyum are a toxic couple is because of how Soo Gyum just decided to kidnap Do Jin right when he (Do Jin) told everyone that he’s officially dating a girl. He also kept him inside his apartment for a few weeks (I think. I don’t remember since I read it about a week or two ago). After a while, Soo Gyum lets Do Jin go but then, two years later, Do Jin goes back to him- asking for them to be in a relationship.

Now, Do Jin says that it’s impossible for it to be Stockholm syndrome because two years had passed, but that’s not necessarily the case. Stockholm Syndrome—depending on the person—can last weeks, months, even years if the person doesn’t seek help. In other words, I don’t think Do Jin had overcome his Stockholm Syndrome. Also, I don’t think it would be a good idea to be in a relationship with someone who was once your captor because there’s always the possibility of them doing something worse to you in the future as well as giving you flashbacks to what said captor had done in the past.

I hope you all enjoyed it. I decided to change it up a bit instead of just writing a review for this one. Until next time, keep your paws and bowls of ramen up, everyone! Nya! 🐾
