This year, I made it my goal to play and read as many romance games and manga, as I can. The creativity nowadays is absolutely mind-blowing. There, of course, will always be many chlichés, but it’s nothing is 100% original, however if the person knows how to use it to their advantage, it becomes a huge hit/classic in the fandom of any of the mentioned genres. Please know that I will not be including any of the manga or games that I have made a review on since almost all of them have the kitten’s paw of approval, also some of these are a few that I have either read/played for a while, but never wrote about it for some reason. Also, I haven’t finished or just started some of them, but so far they have my complete attention.
Games:
–The Arcana
This was recommended to me by a friend about a year ago. I’ve loved the game ever since. Each of the chapters are named after the Major arcana and the characters are rather captivating to say the least. The art-style is absolutely beautiful and there is also a side game where you can collect postcards from you favorite in-game characters. I highly recommend it if you’re interested in fortune telling or you’re curious about what happens in the story.
–Wicked Wolves
This was one I had found out about when I started to find dating sims to play for this month. Created by the same people who made Several Shades of Sadism, Wicked Wolves is where your character finds out about a pack of werewolves after getting attacked by a vampire, of course one of said werewolves is your mate. At the time I’m writing this, there are 4 available routes you can play so far, the other two are going to be released soon (if I recall correctly). I am a major sucker for any story that has to do with supernatural- especially if it’s werewolf stories.
–Nekojishi
It’s a Chinese BL furry visual novel where your character is the only one who can see certain feline spirits. To be honest, I never really finished it because I keep on forgetting to continue playing it (Don’t kill me, please). There is an English version of the game, so you don’t have to worry about trying to find out what it says. Despite not continuing it for a while (which I shall do so as soon as I can), this game completely stole my heart with its uniqueness along with its cozy sense of humor.
Manga:
–Make Me Bark
This webtoon had been on my list for over a year now. I was ecstatic when I finally found a site to read it for free last month. I practically binge-read this during my History of the Modern English Language class. I found it lovely and adorable throughout the entirety of the plot. This webtoon isn’t for young audiences, so if you’re under the age of 18, I don’t think you should be reading this.
-Ookami Wo Karu Housoku
This manga was recommended to me by a friend who I didn’t know was a fujoshi as well until she started to ramble about popular yaoi manga. This is a werewolf yaoi manga (you can see why it caught my attention) and it is absolutely adorable. Not only does it capture the romance between two men, it also touches on topics of homophobia and racism. There are moments where you just can’t help but relate to the characters- especially if you’ve been through similar experiences that they have.
–The Wallflower
In “My Favorite Couples” post, I mentioned The Wallflower- specifically Sunako and Kyohei- as my favorite manga couple. Now, I’ve watched the anime countless times, and I’ve also seen the live-action drama, but I never caught up to the manga until just last week. For some reason, I stopped in chapter 10 despite there being a lot more chapters by then (which was years ago mind you). I remember relating so much to Sunako (and I honestly still do at times) when I was around 15 since I was going through my “emo/scene” phase by then and I was also a victim of bullying back in middle school so the negative thoughts about my own appearance, like Sunako stuck on. One thing I do love is their incredibly high sense of humor while also making sure to balance it with romance and it also has many important life lessons as well.
And with that, Valentine’s week/ month is over! Yay! Thank you all for reading and enjoying my content. Is there any of the mentioned manga/games on your list as well? If not, what are your Valentine’s Day favorites? Anyways, until next time, keep your paws and bowls of ramen up, everyone! Nya! 🐾
